Overdue Items
Effective September 15, 2021, an overdue item blocks you from:
- Checking out,
- Renewing, including automatic renewals,
- or Placing holds
once it is long overdue, i.e. the second overdue notice has been sent.
When overdue items are checked in by the book drops or staff, those services are automatically restored. You may also contact the Library to see if your overdue items are eligible for renewal by staff since renewal will also remove the block.
Items 25 Days Overdue
When an item is 25 days overdue, you are mailed a bill for the replacement cost of the item plus a $5 processing fee.
Return the billed items within 90 days to avoid paying replacement costs.
Search everywhere for the items before paying. Once replacement costs are paid, no refunds are issued, even if you find the items and want to return them.
If the billed amount is $10 or more, then the Library suspends your use of all Library books, materials, and services per Carrollton Code of Ordinances Sec. 132.17 E
Items 90 or More Days Overdue
After 90 days, the bill for replacement items is final.
Lost/Damaged Items
If you lose or damage an item you checked out, please visit or call the Library at 972-466-4800 to discuss any charges. Charges for lost or damaged items are based on the type of item.
Helpful hint: Renew the item, if possible, while you continue looking for it.
But I Returned That...
Check your account online or on a self check machine immediately after return to confirm all items placed in abook drop are checked in off your account.
Tell staff at the desk or contact the Library with the title, date returned, and which Library's book drop you used, if any returned item still shows on your account after it was returned in a book drop
If the item you thought you returned is not found in the Library, then it will be placed on "Claims Returned" status for 30 days to allow time for you to continue looking at home and for staff to look again in the Library. If the item is not found within 30 days, it is declared "Lost" and payment will be due.
Helpful hints:
- Insert ONE ITEM at a time in the book drop as directed by the sign so all items can be checked in
- Check beneath your car seats, under beds, in school backpacks, in closets, in drawers, and in bookshelves
