What is a Seed Library?
A Seed Library is a collection of free seeds for the community that people can take, grow, and share.
The Seed Library at Josey Ranch Lake Library was created based on community feedback and interest. The goals are to:
- Provide access to seeds to grow
- Support engagement with all levels of gardeners within Carrollton
- Share gardening resources available at the Library
Carrollton Public Library's Seed Library is now available at the Josey Ranch Lake Library!
How the Seed Library Works
Taking Seeds
The Seed Library is available in-person at Josey Ranch Lake Library.
With support from The Friends of the Carrollton Public Library, an initial set of open-pollinated seeds was purchased to start the process of building the Seed Library.
See the Seed Inventory lists on this page for specifics on what seeds may be available. Inventory will vary per availability and donations.
You take a packet, plant and grow the seeds, and bring seeds back to share.
We do not currently limit how many packets can be taken, but we encourage donations of seeds to the Seed Library.

Donating Seeds
You can bring seeds in-person to the Josey Ranch Lake Library. We accept:
- Commercial seed packages (unopened or leftover)
- Harvested seeds that are clean and dry
- Seeds for vegetables, flowers, herbs, and native species.
We ask that harvested seeds are open-pollinated and from non-hybrid/F1 plants.
If there is no packaging or instructions with the seeds, just fill out an intake form available at Josey Ranch Lake Library to give more information about the seeds.
You can also fill-in the online version of the form linked below and print it to bring to us :

Native Plants
Native plants are an excellent choice for your garden. Not just beautiful, they use less water and require less regular care than garden cultivars. They also help provide food sources and shelter for native birds, wild life, and pollinators.
Visit the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Native Plants Database for growing information about Native Plants. There you’ll find useful information about how to care for and use the hardy, important plants.
