Public Works will be implementing a smoke testing program for the wastewater collection system. This program aims to identify breaks, defects, and illegal connections within the system. By addressing these issues, we can reduce infiltration and inflow, which helps lower the City’s wastewater treatment costs to the Trinity River Authority.

Notification Process

  • Pre-Test Notification: Hangers will be distributed to notify surrounding neighborhoods and businesses about the upcoming smoke testing.
  • Post-Test Notification: After completing the smoke testing in your area, Public Works employees will provide an ending notification to all affected businesses and residences.

Property Owner Responsibilities

  • Defects on Private Property: Any defects identified on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.
  • Repairs: Property owners must make necessary repairs to comply with federal, state, and local laws.

Enforcement

  • Environmental Services is responsible for enforcing this ordinance and will be present on-site to issue Notices of Violation if necessary.
