The Pollution Control Program enforces federal, state, and local environmental regulations to protect public health and the natural resources of Carrollton.
Non-hazardous Liquid Waste Haulers are inspected and permitted annually. This program helps reduce the number of illegal discharges that threaten our water supply and the public health by keeping track of where each truck is pumping out grease/grit traps and then disposing of its waste.
Inspecting and monitoring the functioning and servicing of all grease/grit traps located within the city is also part of the Pollution Control Program. Proper maintenance of the traps ensures that city sewer lines remain free of blockages and reduces the occurrences of sanitary sewer overflows.
Being prepared for emergencies is paramount to protecting the public health, and knowing where dangerous chemicals reside is the key to being prepared. Carrollton keeps a database that contains information regarding the location and description of chemicals stored at various industries within Carrollton to keep track of all potentially hazardous materials. This information can be downloaded instantly in emergency situations.
A major aspect of the program is responding to citizens questions and environmental complaints. These include disposal of household chemicals, sanitary sewer overflows, illegal dumping of chemicals/paint into the street and storm drains, spill response, along with noise and glare complaints.
