The City Secretary is a local official that has many responsibilities and performs various duties throughout the city.


Boards and Commissions

The City Secretary assists City Council in the Boards and Commissions process by receiving applications, maintaining documentation, monitoring involvement, and presenting candidates for consideration to City Council.

City Council

The City Secretary is involved with the City Council through attendance of meetings, preparing the council agenda items and meeting minutes, maintaining council records, and assisting in other matters relating to Council functions.

Elections

The City Secretary accepts and maintains candidate filings, maintains election information, and coordinates with Election authorities to conduct Elections. The City of Carrollton contracts with Collin, Dallas, and Denton County Election Administrations to hire and train poll workers, manage voter registration, handle ballot preparation and acceptance by mail, and coordinate voting locations for municipal and other Elections. 

The next election dates for the City will be:

  • May 6, 2023 - Council Places 2, 4, 6, and Mayor 

  • May 4, 2024 - Council Places 1, 3, 5, & 7 

  • May 2, 2026 - Council Places 2, 4, 6, and Mayor

Records

The City Secretary is the records custodian for the City. They ensure transparency and access to City records, and they serve as the compliance officer for the Public Information Act.

TABC Processing 

The City Secretary’s office processes Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission applications. To receive approval, the original application must be dropped off at City Hall at 1945 E. Jackson Rd. Carrollton, TX 75006. Once received, the application will be checked by multiple departments and returned to the applicant within 10 business days of receipt.

The City of Carrollton City Secretary's Office is the 2021 recipient of the Municipal Clerk's Achievement of Excellence Award through the Texas Municipal Clerk's Association.

This award recognizes the statutory requirements and demands for the effective management of resources for proper governance by a local authority. 

 


 

The City Secretary's office is open during Carrollton City Hall's normal business hours (unless specified). 

Monday - Thursday:   7:30am - 5:30pm
Friday:   7:30am - 11:30am
Saturday - Sunday:   closed
