Historic Marker Dedication to Be Held Sat. May 1
Be a part of history on Saturday, May 1 at the dedication of a City historical marker recognizing the site of the former Union Baptist Church, the first Baptist congregation in Dallas County, established in 1846. The dedication ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the A.W. Perry Cemetery (1511 N. Perry Road, north of the A.W. Perry Museum).

Summary of April 6 City Council Meeting
The April 6 City Council worksession started with an introduction of Carrollton’s new Police Chief Rex Redden, who is scheduled to start on April 19 (see related story). Councilmembers decided to move forward with installation of video cameras in the Council Briefing room, so that worksessions could be televised.

City Announces Selection of New Police Chief
City Manager Leonard Martin has announced the selection of Rex Redden as the next Police Chief for the Carrollton Police Department, with a start date of April 19, 2010. Redden has over 20 years of law enforcement experience, serving the last six years as Assistant Chief of Police in McKinney, Texas.

City Responds To Civil Rights Lawsuit
Recently the City of Carrollton learned that a lawsuit had been filed against the City and one police officer regarding an incident that occurred in February of 2009. The Carrollton Police Department takes use of force and employee misconduct allegations very seriously and the allegations made in the complaint were investigated thoroughly at the time. With litigation pending, the City of Carrollton cannot comment on this specific case at this time. The City believes the claims asserted in the lawsuit are meritless, and looks forward to its day in Court. Of course, the City’s pleadings, once filed, will be part of the public record, available for anyone to read. The City will vigorously defend this lawsuit. City Joins EPA In Promoting Second Annual Fix A Leak Week
The City of Carrollton has joined the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as it declares March 15 to 21 as the second annual WaterSense “Fix a Leak Week” to remind Americans to check household plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems for leaks.
