Grab the family and come out for a tasty adventure in Historic Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street) on Saturday, September 18 from 3-9 p.m. for the third annual World of Foodies. Bring an appetite and listen to music, celebrate multiple nationalities, chow down on a world of culture and cuisine, and support Dallas-Fort Worth restaurants, craft vendors, and small businesses.
The World of Foodies gathering will be limited to the Downtown Square and the surrounding parking spaces, keeping safety and wellbeing top of mind while still having a fun lineup of performers, henna artists, origami and Fabergé egg crafts, a photo booth, plus a loteria with prizes. A sensory-friendly tent will also be on-site, offering a quiet space for children and adults with special needs to relax and take a break from the noise and crowd.
The event is free to attend, and food vendors will be selling their culturally-themed specialties at varying prices. Experience international flavors, including Caribbean, German, Mexican, Salvadoran, and Texas BBQ foods. Craft vendors will also be on hand with culturally-diverse novelties and creations.
The decision has been made to skip the Foodie Passport program this year. If you have already purchased a passport, Freshtix will be issuing a refund. As a token of appreciation for your understanding, a gift will be waiting for you at the information tent at the event. Present your confirmation email, and receive a World of Foodies souvenir glass, plus a voucher for a free drink.
The entertainment starts at 3 p.m. with Polynesian performances by Grace Hula Dance Company with dancers swaying their hips and moving their hands to tell a story to the beat of Tahitian drums, then music by the Mariachi Quetzal band at 4:30 p.m., an award-winning ensemble of musicians from all over the state of Texas, Music Ministry Conservatory (MMC) at 6 p.m. with an authentic Korean performance, and Kamica King at 8 p.m. with her soulful music and acoustic stylings to complete the evening’s entertainment. Times are subject to change.
Between 7-8 p.m., attendees can participate in a Spanish game of chance called Loteria, played like bingo. Instead of numbers, each board features images and the corresponding name for each image in Spanish. The images are drawn from a deck of cards and called out for players to mark off on their board. The first person to complete their board shouts “¡Buenas!” and wins a prize.
Beat the heat and have some fun in Carrollton with a variety of drinks. El Rincon Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar will be serving house margaritas, Rincon tea, and a variety of beer, including a selection from local favorite 3 Nations Brewing Company.
Event sponsors to date include Dallas Medical Center and El Rincon.
