Background and Education
A Chief Financial Officer for both large public and small private entities throughout his career, he currently works with Waud Capital via a platform investment, HSI fueling organic and M&A growth; additionally, an investor via a holding company of small and mid-cap companies, he provides mentorship through the Dallas Entrepreneur Center and Addison Treehouse. Babick is a member of the DFW Region CFO council and prior panelist at conferences. He has been named a Forbes Finance Council Advisor participating in Advisory Panels and contributing publisher via Forbes and Forbes.com.
A graduate in Finance & Accounting from the Florida State University, he earned his MBA from Amberton University while working full-time and recently completed a Leadership Certificate with the John F Kennedy College of Public Policy and Government at Harvard University.
Public Service
Steve was elected Mayor of Carrollton in May 2022 where he is the senior elected officer of the City, establishing the Agenda, and setting out goals and priorities through consensus with Council. He represents Carrollton on the Council of Governments (Regional Transportation Council, Infrastructure & Water Committee, and Workforce Development Committee) the North Texas Commission, the Metrocrest Mayors Association, and the Dallas, Denton and Collin County Mayors Forums.
A former Councilmember on City Council (2014-2017 & 2018-2022), Steve rotated as Mayor Pro-Tem (2020-2021) and Deputy Mayor Pro-Tem (2016-2017) among other leadership positions and committee assignments including: Audit & Finance Committee Chair, IT Committee Chair, Transit-Oriented Development Committee Chair, Redevelopment Committee, liaison to the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce, Museum Board, Landfill Commission, Environmental Distinction Award Committee Chair, liaison to Planning & Zoning, Property Standards Board, Traffic Advisory Board, Neighborhood Advisory Commission, Parks Board and the Carrollton Wind Symphony. Additional appointments include the Trinity River Waste Water Authority Board, ad-hoc committees for the DFW Regional Chamber and the Dallas State of Entrepreneurial Innovation, and Leadership Metrocrest which provided regional leadership experience.
Prior to being elected, Steve served on the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission, the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Commission (TIRZ) and the Board of Adjustments (cka Property Standards Board). Steve has been an Ambassador of the CFBISD since 2014 and served on the LISD Facilities Advisory Commission 2016-2017.
Steve is a member of Rotary (2015-Present) and former Grand Marshal honoree for the 2017 MLK Parade in Carrollton. He has served his Highlands Neighborhood Association as former President, Treasurer and Block Captain/Crime Watch prior to elected life and was a Delegate to the State Convention previously. He is a mentor to youth of all ages through the Early College High School, CFBISD schools and Boy Scouts.
Personal
Steve and his family have lived in Carrollton for ~30 years. Babick has been married to Peggi since 1992 and they have two Children – Michael - a graduate of Texas Tech University (BS & MBA) and Sarah, a graduate of Texas A&M University (BS). They have attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Carrollton, having been married there in 1992, and participate as a Sacred Scripture Reader/Lector.
