While The City of Carrollton allows potbellied pigs, they must meet the requirements outlined below as well as being registered with the city.
- Potbellied pigs are defined as a variety of swine that is no more than 18 inches in height at shoulder level when fully grown, has short ears, and a straight tail. No swine shall be considered a potbellied pig if its weight exceeds 60 pounds, or it is registered with a licensed breeder.
- Residents are allowed only 2 adult potbellied pigs in any one dwelling unit within the city.
- It shall be unlawful for any person to keep a potbellied pig outdoors other than at those times necessary for the elimination of waste materials or exercise. The leash law and requirements for picking up pet waste remains the same for potbellied pigs as for dogs and cats.
What is needed to register?
- Proof of current erysipelas, parvo and leptospirosis vaccination (with the vet’s letterhead) from the vet showing the date of vaccination
- Name, street address and phone number of the owner
- Name, street address, and phone number of the licensed veterinarian issuing the certificate
- Name and description of the animal
- Types and dates of vaccinations
- Tag numbers
- Approximate weight, height and age of the animal
- Photos of animals enclosure
- $10 annual registration fee
