The Carrollton City Secretary’s Office received the Municipal Clerk’s Achievement of Excellence Award in March, which recognizes the statutory requirements and demands for the effective management of resources for proper governance by a local authority.
The City of Carrollton was one of 43 recipients out of 593 member cities of the Texas Municipal Clerks Association (TMCA) to win the award. Criteria included exceeding standards in Records Management, Professional Development, Government Transparency, Elections, Open Meetings Act, Boards and Commissions, Policies and Procedures, Innovation, Training, and other areas of responsibility.
“There is a long list of state and federal requirements a City Secretary’s Office must fulfill which can already be challenging for a small staff serving a population of more than 135,000 in three counties," City Secretary and Administrative Services Director Laurie Wilson said. "We’re fortunate to have a team of dedicated public servants who are committed to not only meeting those requirements, but exceeding them to ensure the highest level of transparency, integrity, and service is provided. The Achievement of Excellence Award from TMCA is a testament to the effort City staff puts in daily on services such as election administration, constitutionally sound policy and procedure presentation, records retention and transparency, and much more.”
Carrollton’s City Secretary’s Office consists of City Secretary Laurie Wilson, Deputy City Secretary Chloe Sawatzky, and Records Coordinator Ali Cardaropoli. All three were recognized at the June 1 City Council meeting. This is the first time Carrollton has won the award.
TMCA supports municipal clerks across the state to improve the administration of affairs within their respective offices while working to inspire public confidence and respect for government.
