The kids will need activities to keep them busy during the winter break, so bring them to the Carrollton Public Library for 12 Days of Winter Break. Different activities will be featured each day from Wednesday, December 26 through Monday, January 7 at either the Josey Ranch Lake location (1700 Keller Springs Road) or the Hebron & Josey location (4220 N. Josey Lane). Activities are sponsored by the Friends of the Carrollton Public Library, and all art activities are available while supplies last.
From holiday-themed arts and crafts, to the Harry Potter Yule Ball, to making your own snow globe, there is something for all ages and interests. The fun won’t stop until the kids head back to the classroom the second week of January. Both Libraries are closed December 24 & 25 and January 1.
Day 1 – Snowman Scavenger Hunt
Wednesday, December 26
Attendees are invited to visit Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26 to find the hidden snowmen and receive a small (sweet) prize for their efforts. For ages 6+.
Day 2 – Tea with the Queen
Thursday, December 27
Attend story time with the Queen from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, December 27 at Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane) and party British-style. She will be serving biscuits (cookies) and wassail (a warm apple cider with cinnamon) and will teach the kids how to make a Christmas cracker. Tea begins promptly at 2 p.m. Do not keep Her Majesty waiting. For ages 3-8.
Day 3 – Celebrate Kwanzaa

Learn about the seven principles of Kwanzaa through making art, gifts, and playing games at the Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, December 28. Participate in stations that reflect each principle. For ages 6+.
Day 4 – Zooflakes
Saturday, December 29
Animal-shaped paper snowflakes? You bet. If you love animals and making crafts, then this is the event for you. Create a beautiful paper snowflake in the shape of a zoo animal at Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane) from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, December 29. For ages 6+.
Day 5 – Yoga for Kids

Get the kids out of the house and active this winter break with a free yoga class at Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane) from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, December 30. A local yoga instructor will teach the kids basic poses to stretch out their muscles. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle. For ages 6+.
Day 6 – New Year’s Eve Party

Get ready to ring in the New Year with a party created just for kids at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, December 31. Celebrate through poems, songs, games, and puzzles. Kids will even have the chance to set their own resolutions as they count down the hours to 2019. For ages 6+.
Day 7 – Frozen Sing-Along with Snowflake Art
Wednesday, January 2
Attendees will sing along to the hit movie Frozen (2013), PG and create snowflakes of their very own. There will even be an opportunity to take a picture with a princess on a big screen, all at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2. For all ages.
Day 8 – Bilingual Story Time & Winter Art

Celebrate winter with a story in English and Spanish and make a wintry craft. Todos son bienvenidos! Everyone is welcome at Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane) from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, January 3. For ages 3-8.
Day 9 – Harry Potter Yule Ball
Friday, January 4
Attention Potter enthusiasts of all ages: It’s time for the second annual Harry Potter Yule Ball inspired by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, January 4. In addition to the festive Yule Ball, complete with dancing and music, there will be Harry Potter-themed crafts, activities, door prizes, trivia, a scavenger hunt, a costume contest, and a photo booth. Dressing up is highly encouraged.
Day 10 – Blizzard Story & Make a Snow Globe

Hear the true story of a little boy that saved his town during a terrible snowstorm from a reading of John Rocco’s book Blizzard at Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane) from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, January 5. Children will be able to make a cool snow globe to take home and put on display as a fun winter decoration. For ages 6+.
Day 11 – Finger Knitting

Looking for a new hobby? Finger knitting could be just what you need! Learn how to knit at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, January 6. Start work on a beautiful scarf to keep or give to a friend. It’s easy and fun! Yarn will be supplied, just bring fingers. No needles are required. For ages 6+.
Day 12 – Winter Escapades

Stop in for hands-on, winter STEAM activities of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, January 7. For ages 6+.
