Carrollton to Open Second Splash Park with Ribbon Cutting Event

Post Date:04/27/2017 4:31 PM

Just in time to beat the summertime heat, the City of Carrollton will celebrate the grand opening of the Oak Hills Splash Park on Saturday, May 6 at 12 p.m. The Mayor and City Council will officiate the opening of the park by cutting the ceremonial ribbon. The 3,000-square-foot splash park is located on the southwest corner of Oak Hills Park (1210 E. Hebron Parkway).

Splash ParkThe new splash park will boast water features, a restroom area, pump room, and a shade structure to shield residents from the Texas sun. In addition, more than 40 new parking spaces have been added to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce street parking.

“We wanted to build something that the community could be proud of,” said Parks and Recreation Director Scott Whitaker. “This splash park will not only provide a great escape from the heat, but will also give our kids endless hours of outdoor fun for years to come.”

In September 2016, Carrollton City Council unanimously voted to approve a contract with Vortex International to begin design and construction on the second community spray park.

Funds totaling $550,000 approved in the 2013 bond election were used to build the new park and its features. An additional $400,000 was budgeted by the City for park equipment, utilities, and additional parking.
