Free SKYWARN Class – Jan. 11
SKYWARN is a volunteer program with nearly 290,000 trained severe weather spotters who provide timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service (NWS). Anyone with an interest in public service and acccess to communication is encouraged to join the program. Attend a free SKYWARN training class on Saturday, January 11 from 9 until 11 a.m. at Carrollton Municipal Court Building (2001 E. Jackson Road) and join the team of SKYWARN storm spotters that are part of the ranks of citizens who form the Nation’s first line of defense against severe weather, giving communities the precious gift of time – seconds and minutes that can help save lives. Training covers basics of thunderstorm development, fundamentals of storm structure, identifying potential severe weather features, information to report, how to report information, and basic severe weather safety.
