School Resource Officers Develop Youth Program -
Applications for Junior Police Academy Due By May 13
In an effort to build positive relationships between Police and the youth of the City of Carrollton, the Carrollton Police Department has developed a program called the Junior Police Academy.
The main focus of the Junior Police Academy is to expose middle school aged children to a wide range of police activities. Participants will learn about the Carrollton Police Department’s Motorcycle Unit, Crime Scene Investigations, SWAT Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, Police K9 Unit and many other exciting areas within the Department.
“Often we are approached by students who want to know what we do. This program will give them the opportunity to learn more about their local Police department and its services,” said School Resource Officer Shannon Hartzell.
The Junior Police Academy is a week long program, which will be held four times this June and July. The dates are:
· June 20 – 24, 2011
· June 27 – July 1, 2011
· July 11 – 15, 2011
· July 25 – 29
Applicants to Junior Police Academy must be an incoming 7th or 8th grade student for the 2011 – 2012 school year. All applicants must be in good standing at their school, as well as in the community. The Carrollton Police Department is providing this opportunity free of charge to all participants.
If you are interested in participating in the Junior Police Academy, applications may be picked up at the front desk of the Carrollton Police Department (2025 E. Jackson Road) or any LISD or C-FBISD middle school in Carrollton.
Applications must be returned to the Carrollton Police Department no later than May 13, 2011. If you have further questions, please contact Officer Shannon Hartzell at 972-466-9122 or Officer Shanna Weissmann at 972-466-3314.
