Identity theft is when a criminal uses another person’s identifying information to fraudulently steal money. With stolen information, thieves can create credit cards and loans, as well as withdraw from Social Security funds or checking accounts. Identity theft is considered the number one white collar crime in the United States, and seniors in particular are often victimized by identity theft. The Federal Trade Commission in 2009 reported $1.7 billion in loses as a result of fraud.
Senior citizens (age 50+) who wish to attend should call the Carrollton Senior Center to make a reservation at 972-466-4850.
