Teens and Depression:

Helping Parents Find the Path to Treatment

Speakers: Vanita Halliburton and Diana Weaver of the Grant Halliburton Foundation and the “I am Here” Coalition

Parents have a hard time accepting that there are problems with kids and teens, and when you combine depression with substance abuse, parents can’t always find a clear path to treatment. This educational program will answer questions such as:

  • Where do I begin?
  • Where do I take my child for psychiatric evaluation?
  • What are the differences between doctors, psychologists and counselors?
  • What financial arrangements are made?
  • How do I pay?
  • How long does my kid or teen stay in treatment as a resident?
  • What happens if my child is suicidal?

The Carrollton Police Department offers quarterly workshops for parents. Registration is required and is limited to the first 100 persons. You can either call 972-466-3158 or email pamela.dickinson-noris@cityofcarrollton.com to register. Because of the sensitivity of the subjects, we ask that you do not bring your children or teens to these meetings.

These programs are offered as informational and referral. The Carrollton Police Department is not recommending any one practitioner or agency, nor making any comment or representation about the effectiveness of programs. The important thing is to seek help and information.
