The NTTA, Texas Department of Public Safety and Mothers Against Drunk Driving are sponsoring two Town Hall Meetings on separate days and locations:
Because of the possibility of icy driving conditions on Wednesday, the North Texas Tollway Authority, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Mothers Against Drunk Driving have postponed the second town hall meeting planned as part of a Regional Safety Summit to gather public input about top traffic safety concerns related to area roadways and to prioritize those concerns. The first town hall meeting will go on as planned tonight.
The new schedule for the Regional Safety Summit town hall meetings is as follows:
Feb. 8, 6-7:30 p.m. in the NTTA Boardroom, 5900 W. Plano Parkway, Plano
Feb. 16, 6-7:30 p.m. at the North Central Texas Council of Governments, 616 Six Flags Drive, Arlington
Area public safety officials have already begun meeting in special-focus workshops to identify safety issues. Concerns and priorities identified during the town hall meetings will be shared with public safety officials and merged with priorities they have already identified. Next steps for the summit will involve public safety officials identifying strategies to help reduce or eliminate the top traffic safety concerns voiced by both groups.
“I believe when everyone works toward the same goal, we can develop viable solutions and make meaningful progress,” said NTTA Director of System and Incident Management Marty Legé. “Every driver on the road is a partner in safety, and we are aiming for full public participation in these town hall meetings.”
Town hall meeting participants may stop by between 6 and 7:30 p.m. to share their ideas or fill out a comment card. Comments, concerns or suggestions for safety improvements may also be posted on the NTTA’s Facebook page or e-mailed to safety@ntta.org.
The Regional Safety Summit is a year-long series of meetings sponsored by the NTTA, Texas DPS and MADD. Results and initiatives developed from the summit are expected in the fourth quarter of 2011.
