Carrollton to Hold Grand Opening for Rosemeade Expansion

Post Date:10/29/2024 3:06 PM
New Features Include Full-Size Gym, Esports Room, Indoor Walking Track, and More.

Rosemeade Exp-inviteThe City of Carrollton is celebrating the completion of a 27,511 square-foot expansion of Rosemeade Recreation Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6.

“Voter-approved money from the 2018 and 2022 bond elections funded the current expansion,” Carrollton Recreation Manager Heather Smith said. “The improvements are intended to serve the continued needs of the community and further promote the wellbeing of Carrollton citizens.”

Guests at the ceremony will hear from Carrollton Parks & Recreation Director Scott Whitaker and Mayor Steve Babick.

Rosemeade Expansion MuralThe original scope of the project included the construction of a full-size gym to meet NCAA configurations and for modification of affected hallways to ensure the continuation of current programs, Smith said. During the design phase, the scope was expanded to include a multi-purpose court, an elevated indoor walking track, an esports room, restroom modifications, and storage area(s).

“A must-see feature for anyone interested in nostalgia is the new Legacy in Motion mural measuring 34 feet wide by 24 feet high with photos from residents, local newspapers, high school yearbooks, and the City’s archives,” Smith said. “The mural is a wonderful collection of athletic memories spanning years and years of Carrollton history.”

With these updates to the facility, Smith said the City will be able to offer more expansive programs and activities, and provide more open play spaces for members, such as the use of the walking track with equipment stations on the crossover segment; a multi-purpose court for pickleball, fitness and group classes, and volleyball; and the addition of an esports room to expand the City’s offerings and tournament play at Crosby Recreation Center.

This project also supports the City Council’s strategic objectives and its vision of building a community that families and businesses want to call home by sustaining quality of life through the promotion of physical health as well as improving financial sustainability through regular exercise and increased daily attendance.

Individuals and families who want to lock in the price of their membership for another year, or individuals who are excited about the offerings at either of Carrollton’s Recreation Centers or the Senior Center and are interested in becoming a member, can save with the All-Access Membership to all three facilities. So, don’t delay. Purchase or renew, today. Memberships and daily fees are subject to change in accordance with the most recent Municipal fee ordinance, effective January 1, 2025.

Rosemeade Recreation Center was originally built in 1981 with expansions in 2002 and 2012. Voter-approved money from the 2018 and 2022 bond elections will fund the coming improvements.

As the City begins the voter-approved expansion, a large staging area will be required. Due to construction preparation, the adjacent dog park and parking lot will close temporarily beginning Monday, May 15, and the dog park will reopen on Saturday, May 27 with limited parking for the duration of the construction project with only the parking spots along Rosemeade Park Drive available.

In the interim, guests can visit Carrollton’s additional dog park within McInnish Sports Complex (1845 Legends Trail).

These updates are intended to serve the continued needs of the community and further promote the physical wellbeing of Carrollton citizens.

This project will also support City Council’s strategic objectives and vision of building a community that families and businesses want to call home by sustaining quality of life through promotion of physical health as well as improving financial sustainability through increased daily attendance.
