For a number of years, DART has explored charging for parking at light rail stations and park and ride lots. The ridership surge, fueled by the high gas prices of 2008, strained the agency’s ability to provide sufficient parking capacity, especially in already high volume facilities.
In an effort to manage the demand for parking and to offset the cost of providing parking for customers who live outside its service area, DART has proposed Paid Parking Fee Structure. A pilot demonstration project to test the viability of such a system has been proposed for Parker Road Station in Plano and the North Carrollton/Frankford Station on the soon-to-open Green Line. See chart elsewhere in this brochure for an outline for the proposed pay structure.
To receive comments on the approval of the following change, a community meeting has been scheduled in each of the affected cities, followed by a public hearing at DART
