Founded in 2010, the Hearing Voices Network USA represents a partnership between individuals who hear voices or have other extreme or unusual experiences, professionals, and allies in the community, all of whom are working together to change the assumptions made about these phenomenon and create supports, learning and healing opportunities for people across the country.

Hearing Voices Groups do not pathologize hearing voices or other altered or extreme states. Mainstream psychiatry ideas about “hallucinations” are that they are not real. The core idea of the Hearing Voices approach holds that all experiences that people are having are happening to them. Therefore, they ask: “what does the experience mean to you?” Group members explore these phenomena in an environment of mutual support and inquiry.
