Police Officer Exams

GENERAL TESTING INFORMATION:
Examination Date: April 5, 2014 at Newman Smith High School cafeteria
@ 8:30 a.m. - Written Exam Doors open at 8 a.m. testing begins at 8:30 a.m.
@ 1:00 p.m. - Physical Agility Exam

A complete application must be submitted electronically no later than 5:30 a.m. on March 27, 2014. Once you complete the application electronically you will receive an additional email which will contain a link to an information packet. Applications are available here.

SUMMARY: Performs a variety of law enforcement and crime prevention tasks, investigative work, special assignments, technical and administrative tasks in support of the Police Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-Must be a US Citizen
-Associates Degree from an accredited college/university

OR

-90 hours of college credit from an accredited college/university

Exceptions apply to the following:
-Texas Certified Police Officers, Active duty, honorably discharged military, and Full time Carrollton Police Department Personnel

-Less than two years experience 90 college hours
-2 years but less than 3 years experience 45 college hours
-3 years and over 30 college hours

-Time served for experience in each of the three categories is exclusive and cannot be combined with time from another of the three categories to qualify for a specific reduction of college hours. Times served must
be continuous and not have breaks in service. Experience level must be accepted as of the date of the Civil Service Exam.

AGE REQUIREMENTS:
-Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years old when taking the Civil Service Examination. As provided in Chapter 143 Section .023, applicants who are 45 years of age or older may not be certified for a beginning position in a police department.

DISQUALIFIERS:
-Applicants who have had excess usage of marijuana within 24 months will not be considered until 36 months have passed since their last usage.
-Any applicant who has used any illegal substance other than marijuana will not be considered for employment with the Carrollton Police Department
-Illegal substances shall be any substance included in penalty groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 Texas Health and Safety Code .
-There shall be no evidence in the employee/applicant driving record of any of the following:
1. Three moving violations within the past three years or
2. Two moving violations and one chargeable vehicle accident within the past three years or
3. Two chargeable vehicle collisions within the past two years.

SALARY SCHEDULE:
BEGINNING SALARY $53,382.89
