Qualifications Candidates must be a minimum of 21 years old and be a U.S. Citizen when taking the Civil Service Examination. Educational Requirements Candidates must have an Associates degree or 90 hours of college credit toward a degree plan from an accredited college/university with a 2.0 GPA or better. Exceptions apply to Texas Certified Peace Officers, Active Duty – Honorably Discharged Military, and full-time CPD personnel as follows:
Time served for experience in each of the three categories is exclusive and cannot be combined with time from another of the three categories to qualify for a specific reduction of college hours. Service time must be continuous and not have breaks in service. Experience level must be accepted as of the date of the Civil Service exam.
Veterans
As provided in Chapter 143 Section .025(e) of the Texas Local Government Code, applicants wishing to receive veteran's points (5 pts.) on the entrance exam, must bring a DD214 Form for active duty or an NGB Form 22 for National Guard service indicating an honorable discharge to the test.
Characteristics Must be of good moral character, exhibit a stable employment record, enjoy a good credit rating and driving record, and have no history of addiction to drugs or alcohol. SalaryBase Pay With 26 pay periods annually, pay is bi-weekly. The pay schedule does not include incentive pay. Incentive Pay Education
All Carrollton Police Officers earn $50 per month for approved Associates degree or $100 per month for an approved Bachelors degree or $150 per month for an approved Masters degree. Texas Peace Officer Certification
All Carrollton Police Officers earn $50 per month for holding an Intermediate Certificate, $100 per month for holding an Advance Certificate or $150 per month for holding a Master Peace Officer Certificate. Longevity
$4 per month for each year of service to a maximum of $1,800 per year.

All Carrollton Police Officers earn 120 hours vacation per year. Vacation days may be used after 6 months of service. Sick Leave
All Carrollton Police Officers accrue 120 hours of sick leave per year, with unlimited accumulation. Upon retirement or termination, an officer, with greater than five years service, will be paid for a maximum of 960 unused hours sick leave. Insurance

Each officer has the option to choose between two City PPN Plans offered. The City sponsored Health Insurance is available to officers at low cost and to officers' dependents at a reduced cost. Each officer is provided life insurance equal to 2 times their annual salary. Retirement
All Carrollton Officers are required to be members of the Texas Municipal Retirement System. The officer contributes 7% and the City matches 2:1. An officer is eligible for retirement benefits at any age with 20 years of service. An officer who terminates prior to retirement is eligible to have all contributions returned. TMRS also provides a life insurance policy equal to one (1) times the annual salary.
Deferred Compensation
You may participate in a Deferred Compensation Program to shelter a portion of your gross annual salary from income taxes. If the officer contributes at least 4.65%, the City will match those contributions at 2.35%. Vesting is immediate. The deferred portion will be placed into investment options of the employee's choice and may be withdrawn at termination or retirement. Roth IRAs are also available.
