Which version of the Fire Code is the City of Carrollton under right now?

 

    The City of Carrollton is currently using the 2012 edition of the International Fire Code and current NFPA codes.

When was the current Fire Code adopted?

    The 2006 Fire Code and Amendments were adopted by City Ordinance #3181 on January 1, 2014 (See 2012 International Code Amendments)

How should fire lane violations be reported?

    Report these violations to Fire Prevention at (972) 466-3210. A fire inspector will be dispatched to investigate.

What is the procedure for scheduling a Hydrant Flow Test?

Is it legal to use a barbecue pit at an apartment complex?

    The City of Carrollton has adopted ordinance No. 3181 banning the use of barbecue pits on apartment balconies that reads as follows:

  • Open flame cooking devices, charcoal grills, outdoor fireplaces and other similar devices used for cooking, heating or any other purpose, shall not be located or used on any combustible balcony, deck, or within 10 feet of any combustible construction.    

    Exceptions:

    1.  One and two family dwellings

    2.  Where buildings, balconies, and decks are protected by an approved automatic sprinkler system.

In an apartment, who is responsible for keeping smoke alarms in good working order?

    Smoke alarms are so effective that the City of Carrollton requires the owners/managers of apartment communities to provide working smoke alarms when tenants move in.  However, it is up to the tenant to ensure the smoke alarms continue to work.  Test smoke alarms once a month and replace the battery at least once a year.  Make sure smoke alarms are clean at all times.

What is the City of Carrollton's ordinance regarding fireworks usage?

    The possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling and use of fireworks are prohibited.

    Definition of “Fireworks”:

  • Any composition or device for the purpose of producing a visible or an audible effect for entertainment purposes by combustion, deflagration, detonation, and/or activated by ignition with a match or other heat producing device that meets the definition of 1.4G fireworks or 1.3 fireworks.
