All Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD elementary and middle schools are utilizing NFPA’s (National Fire Protection Association) Risk Watch® life safety curriculum. Risk Watch® is a comprehensive, school-based injury prevention curriculum, with instruction modules that target the eight major risk areas that kill or injure the most children each year. These modules are:
For children ages 14 and under, the #1 health risk is not kidnapping, drugs, or disease. It is injuries.
Each year these injuries kill more than 7,000 kids and permanently disable more than 50,000. That is more than drugs and disease combined.
Thirteen million children – one in four – are injured seriously enough to require medical attention.
Risk Watch books are also located at both Carrollton libraries and are housed in the Reference section. These safety modules are excellent for use in the community, home schooling, church organizations, and scouting associations.
If you are interested in having Risk Watch® become part of your school’s education curriculum, please contact Mark Haseloff, Fire Marshal and Battalion Chief, Fire Prevention, by email.
