Library Cards

Am I eligible to get a Carrollton Public Library card?
All Texas residents are eligible for Carrollton Public Library cards. You must be at least 18 years old and have one of the following items with you as proof of residency at your current address:

• Valid Texas Driver License or ID with current address
• Valid Driver License or picture ID issued by a governmental agency with non-current address plus one of the following with your name and current address:
  • lease
  • recent utility bill (water, electric, gas, cable, etc.)
  • car/motorcycle insurance card
  • printed check from your bank
  • recent paycheck stub

How do I get a library card?
Apply online then bring your photo ID with proof of address to the Front Desk of either library.

Can my child get a library card?
Parents can apply for a library card for a child under 18. Parents are responsible for all materials checked out and late fines on the child's card.

• The child must be present during the application process.
• The parent must be present with proof of residency at the current home address.
• The parent must sign both the application and the back of the card at the time it is issued.
• The parent must be present in the library to change the level of internet access allowed with the child's card on library computers.
• The parent must be present to renew the library card when it expires.

How much does it cost to get a library card?

• A free library card is issued when you open your library account.
• $1.00 is charged to replace a lost card.

What are the check out limits on a new card?
For the first 6 months you may check out 5 items at a time.

How do I renew my library card?
Library cards are issued for a period of one year.

Your card will be renewed automatically for another year if you

• checked out at least one item during the past year
• owe no fees
• have no overdue items
• have a current address in your library account so mail sent to you by the library has not been returned

You must renew your card in person if your card expires and is not eligible for automatic renewal. Bring a valid Texas Driver License or ID to any service desk, and we will renew your card for another year.

I lost my library card. How do I report this?
Report lost library cards immediately. Call the library at 972-466-4800 or submit a library account feedback online. There is a $1.00 fee to replace a lost card.
