Over 1000 children under age 8 die in traffic crashes each year.  For every child that dies in a traffic crash, 45 more are hospitalized.

The Appropriate Use of A Child Safety Seat:

  • Is 71% effective in reducing deaths in infants.
  • Is 54% effective in reducing deaths in toddlers.
  • Is 69% effective in reducing the need for hospitalization.

Unfortunately, Over 80% of Child Safety Seats Are Installed Incorrectly

Take A Few Simple Steps To Keep Your Child Safe:

  1. Install and Use An Appropriate Child Safety Seat for Your Child's Age and Weight.
  2. Refer to both the seat manufacturer's instructions and your vehicle owners manual when installing the seat.
  3. Check the seat regularly to ensure correct installation.
  4. After you install your child safety seat have a certified child safety seat inspector examine the installation. Find A Child Safety Seat Inspector

Most Common Installation Mistakes:

  • Child Seat is too loose (more than 1" of movement when checked at the belt path)
  • Seat Belt/ retractor is not locked.
  • Harness straps too loose, incorrectly positioned, or twisted.
  • Wrong seat for age/ weight of child.
