Join the Citizen Police Academy to learn about your Police Department and its officers. This on-going program is presented at no cost to Carrollton citizens. Information is provided as a public service to acquaint you with the Police Department and build a relationship with the community. The classes are taught by Carrollton police officers in their field of expertise.

It's a great opportunity to learn everything you've always wanted to know about the police and criminal activity, but were afraid to ask.

Attendance and Curriculum

Participants must fill out an application for admission, and be at least 21 years of age to participate. After a screening check, class members will be advised if admitted.

Class topics include: recruiting and hiring practices, legal issues, gang information, narcotics investigations, traffic crash investigation, crime scene investigation and many more interesting law enforcement subjects. Another evening is spent at the firing range getting acquainted with the members of the Tactical and K-9 teams. (Instructors are available for one on one coaching.) Police participants are generous with their time and are willing to answer questions.

How Does Citizen Police Academy Benefit Citizens?

The Citizen Police Academy acquaints and educates residents of our city to the duties and responsibilities of their police officers and how you can help. We feel that doing this in a classroom setting with Carrollton Police instructors is the best approach.

Graduates of past Citizen Police Academy sessions formed the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association to continue providing local support. It's a great way to see how your tax dollars are spent! Come join us next time in the Citizen Police Academy. After completion of the class, members are eligible for membership in the the alumni association. These people have already shown their dedication by finishing the CPA course. Alumni are involved in on-going projects and events involving the department and the association itself.

The classes are once a week on Thursday nights from 7-10PM at the Carrollton Police Dept, located at 2025 E. Jackson Road. The sessions are interactive training and include demonstrations as well as class participation in scenario situations. You must be 21 or older, a Carrollton resident and have no criminal convictions other than traffic tickets. All materials are provided and there is no cost for participation. You do not have to attend every session, however, a minimum of 70% attendance is required for graduation.

The Citizen Police Academy is also the gateway to participate in our Police Department volunteer programs such as the Alumni Association or the Citizen on Patrol program. You can contact Sgt. Brian Box at 972-466-4329 or by email: for an application or if you have any questions. Applications are being accepted now and after a background check you will be notified if you are selected for the class.
