Carrollton Adopts E-Cigarette Ban
Posted Date: 5/2/2014

The Carrollton City Council has passed an ordinance that places a ban on smoking electronic cigarettes inside or within 20 feet of local retail and restaurant establishments. No E Cigarettes Sign

City Ordinance No. 3609 passed April 15, and went into effect April 21. The increasingly popular vaporized alternative to tobacco cigarettes will now be included in any other existing tobacco laws enforced in Carrollton. This includes the illegal sale to minors.

The penalty for violating the new ban is a fine up to $2,000.

With many state and federal agencies enacting related regulations, Carrollton becomes one of the first municipalities to adopt restrictions on e-cigarettes along with Los Angeles, New York City, Boston, and Chicago as well as neighboring Frisco.

The Food and Drug Administration formally released a blueprint for proposed regulations on the use, marketing, and sales of e-cigarettes on April 24. Once finalized, it will allow the FDA oversight and authority on a previously unregulated product market.

The City has encouraged local retailers and restaurateurs to post notices of the ban on their business entrances. A copy of the notice can be found at
