Mosquito season is upon us and the City of Carrollton is taking action to “Fight the Bite”. The surveillance program has 14 fixed testing sites. Each week mosquitoes are collected from seven of these sites and the following week the next seven will be tested. Samples were collected Friday, October 2 and the results of these tests were negative for West Nile Virus.
Scott Hudson, Environmental Services Director, encourages citizens to practice the ‘4Ds’ to reduce the risk of WNV:
• DEET All Day, Every Day: Whenever you’re outside, use insect repellants that contain DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
• DRESS: Wear long, loose, and light-colored clothing outside.
• DRAIN: Remove all areas of standing water in and around your home.
• DUSK & DAWN: Limit outdoor activities during dusk and dawn hours when mosquitoes are most active.
