35Express Brings Traffic Shift to Whitlock Lane and Luna Road
Posted Date: 9/10/2014 1:00 PM

Traffic on the southbound I-35E frontage road between Whitlock Lane and Luna Road will shift to the west beginning Thursday, September 11 at 9 p.m. This shift is expected to last through late 2014.

In addition, the following will take place:
• Various lanes of the southbound I-35E frontage road between Whitlock Lane and Luna Road will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Thursday, September 11 through Monday, September 22 to restripe the roadway and set concrete traffic barrier.

• Traffic on northbound I-35E between Valwood Parkway and west Crosby Road will shift toward the west beginning Friday, September 12 at 9 p.m. This shift is expected to last through late 2014.

• Various lanes of northbound I-35E between Valwood Parkway and west Crosby Road will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Friday, September 12 through Wednesday, September 17 to restripe the roadway and set concrete traffic barrier.

East and westbound Belt Line Road will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Denton Drive and Hutton Drive through October.

The U-turn lane at Valwood Parkway from the northbound I-35E frontage road to the southbound I-35E frontage road will be closed through November 2014. Motorists will need to turn left from the signalized intersection to access the southbound I-35E frontage road.

The U-Turn lanes on the north- and southbound I-35E frontage roads at Valley View Lane will be closed through December 2014. During the closure, crews will construct the center bridge support structure for the expansion of the Valley View Lane bridge.

The U-turn lane at Valwood Parkway from the northbound I-35E frontage road to the southbound I-35E frontage road will be closed through November 2014. Motorists will need to turn left from the signalized intersection to access the southbound I-35E frontage road.

The I-35E north and southbound high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes running from Whitlock Lane in Carrollton, south to I-635 in Dallas will close permanently, as construction progresses on the I-35E expansion project, or 35Express.

Once finished, 35Express will feature a pair of reversible managed toll lanes that will take the place of HOV lanes. The managed lanes will be reversed each day to handle southbound traffic in the morning, and northbound traffic in the evening. The goal of the managed lanes will be to ease congestion and keep traffic flowing at an average rate of 50 mph along the corridor.

On average, nearly 7,000 vehicles per day use this five-mile stretch of HOV lanes. For more information on lane closures or the 35Express Project, visit www.35Express.org, or call 214-483-7777.
