City of Carrollton Partnering with Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity
Carrollton, TX – The City of Carrollton’s Environmental Services Community Development Department is proud to announce a new partnership with Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. On Saturday, December 14, the City of Carrollton will work in conjunction with Dallas Habitat’s A Brush with Kindness Program to provide home repair to 2418 Briarwood Lane, located in Rhoton Park Neighborhood.
Homeowner Lettie Gonzales, who lives at the residence with her two children, received a code violation as part of a 2013 code enforcement sweep of the N.O.T.I.C.E. (Neighborhood-Oriented Targeted Infrastructure and Code Enforcement) neighborhoods program, a program that represents a targeted infrastructure reinvestment and neighborhood integrity in an effort to sustain older neighborhoods in the City. After consulting with the City of Carrollton, she applied for the City’s Minor Home Repair Program and qualified for $5,000 in exterior home repairs. Repairs are to include siding replacement, soffit replacement, and painting.
A Brush with Kindness is Dallas Area Habitat’s home repair program that provides exterior repairs for existing homeowners who are low-income and reside in neighborhoods where Dallas Habitat is building new homes. The program provides a way for existing homeowners to participate in the transformation of their neighborhood.
“We thank the City of Carrollton for the special assistance program they provide for homeowners like Lettie Gonzales,” said Bill Hall, CEO of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. “While Habitat is known for constructing homes for deserving low-income homeowners, we are also pleased to be able to help homeowners in our communities make the necessary repairs to remain safely in their existing homes for as long as possible. Carrollton’s Minor Home Repair Program provided the financial resources for us to assist in doing just that through our repair program A Brush with Kindness.”
In addition to City volunteers, St. Andrews Christian Church (3945 N Josey Lane) will act as the volunteer group for this project. The City of Carrollton is looking for businesses, church groups, and individuals who would like to help grow this momentum and partner with the City to help with painting and construction for more volunteer home repair projects.
