City of Carrollton’s Recycling Rewards Brought by Waste Management Just Got Better

Residents can now sign up for Recyclebank and start earning reward points
that can be redeemed for hundreds of discounts and deals

CARROLLTON, TEXAS — THURSDAY, OCT. 18, 2012 — The City of Carrollton, in partnership with Waste Management, Inc. (NYSE: WM) and Recyclebank®, today announced that it now offers Recyclebank’s recycling rewards program to Carrollton residents. Recyclebank rewards people for taking everyday green actions, such as recycling, with discounts and deals from locally-based businesses and national brands. All residents, including those already participating in recycling rewards through Waste Management’s Think Green Rewards, are eligible to participate in the Recyclebank program. Residents can sign up today for a free account at www.Recyclebank.com/WM, and automatically earn 300 Recyclebank Points.

Think Green Rewards participants will receive an email with instructions on how to set up a new Recyclebank account and transfer their TGR points. If new to recycling rewards, Carrollton residents can simply visit www.Recyclebank.com/WM to sign up and follow the prompts to verify their address and begin earning reward points. Over the course of a year, Carrollton households signed up for Recyclebank can earn an average of $165 in rewards value.

“We’re proud of the work we’ve accomplished with the City of Carrollton and are excited to bring Recyclebank’s rewards program to residents, which we’re confident will help us further move the needle against our goal of diverting more waste from landfills,” said Pamela Ducas, community relations and public affairs manager at Waste Management. “Through these collaborative efforts, we’re able to engage communities and individuals around creating cleaner, safer and happier neighborhoods.”

Recyclebank’s program is akin to a frequent flyer program except that residents earn reward points for being green instead. Residents can use their points to “shop” for rewards from dozens of locally-based businesses and national brands in more than 10 categories. Each time a neighborhood’s recycling is collected, the weight of the collected material is converted to Recyclebank Points. Those who are Recyclebank members will automatically receive their share of the reward points for their recycling efforts. Residents can also earn bonus points each week when they report their recycling efforts on the Recyclebank website. Members can also use the Recyclebank mobile apps on their iPhone and Android devices to report their recycling, check their Recyclebank points balance and discover reward offers.

“At Recyclebank, we’ve seen incredible eco-conscious efforts from leading communities in the state of Texas, and we’re excited to join Waste Management in helping to further the City of Carrollton’s own commitment,” said Gillan Taddune, vice president at Recyclebank. “We’ve seen firsthand the impact that communities, businesses and governments can have when they work together and inspire people to live more eco-consciously, and we look forward to seeing the results of Carrollton residents’ efforts.”

In addition to significant environmental benefits, increased recycling also has a positive impact on municipal finances through disposal cost savings and revenues from the sale of recyclables. With this partnership, the City of Carrollton joins more than 300 communities across all 50 states and the U.K. that have implemented Recyclebank.
