The 2014 National Community Development Week will be celebrated from April 21-26. This year commemorates the Community Development Block Grant Program’s (CDBG) 40th anniversary.

In honor of this special occasion, the City of Carrollton will be  celebrating a on Saturday, April 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will include a ribbon cutting at Jimmy Porter Park (1871 Sherwood Lane), and a community picnic in the park with free hot dogs, City information booths, and a chance to mingle with Carrollton’s elected officials, all to celebrate the accomplishments of the Hill ‘N Dale NOTICE Program. Financed by the CDBG, this Community Development Outreach Program recently invested $1,981,832 towards infrastructure improvements.

The CDBG program was enacted into law as part of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and provides safe and sanitary housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents. To this day, the CDBG remains the principal source of revenue for localities in devising flexible solutions to prevent physical, economic, and social deterioration in lower-income neighborhoods and communities throughout the nation.
