Recyclebank posterFrequently Asked Questions for Carrollton

The City of Carrollton has been committed to rewarding residents for their recycling activity since 2008, when we introduced the Recyclebank recycling rewards program. The rewards programs are provided in connection with our City’s recycling collection company. You may recall that back in 2010 our City changed solid waste providers, and switched to Waste Management. At that time, Waste Management’s recycling rewards program was Think Green Rewards, so that became the City of Carrollton’s recycling rewards program. Recently however, Waste Management and Recyclebank have partnered! So now we are excited to have a new and improved Recyclebank rewards program back to reward our residents for recycling.

What is the City of Carrollton’s Recycling Rewards Program?

The City of Carrollton and Waste Management bring you Recyclebank—a program that rewards you for taking everyday green actions, like recycling at home, with discounts and deals from hundreds of local and national businesses.

How has the program changed over the years?

As stated in the introduction, recycling rewards have been provided to Carrollton residents by different programs over the years, since the rewards program is linked to the recycling collection hauler. Effective October 17, 2012, the rewards will once again be provided by Recyclebank. The good news is that the Recyclebank program has grown and improved since it was first introduced in Carrollton back in 2008. Now, in addition to receiving points for recycling, there are lots of other ways to earn points online, and also learn about living a little greener.

What is the difference between Recyclebank and Think Green Rewards?

Recyclebank and Think Green Rewards are different recycling rewards programs. The Think Green Rewards program was Waste Management’s rewards program, but since Waste Management and Recyclebank have partnered up, the Recyclebank program is replacing the Think Green Rewards program.

I signed up with Recyclebank in 2008. Do I still have an account/points?

Some City of Carrollton residents still have active Recyclebank accounts. But if you have not earned points with Recyclebank or redeemed rewards with them for 12 months, your points will have expired. If you are not sure if your account is still active, call Recyclebank at 1-888-727-2978.

I do not currently have a Think Green Rewards account. Can I still participate?

Absolutely! To begin the registration process, visit http://www.recyclebank.com/wm or call 1-888-727-2978.

I never had Recyclebank before, but I have Think Green Rewards now. What does that mean for me?

During the latter part of October 2012, Waste Management and Recyclebank will send a series of emails to Think Green Rewards members with information on how account balances will be transferred and how to activate your new Recyclebank account. If you did not receive the emails from Waste Management and Recyclebank, call 1-888-727-2978.

What will happen to my Think Green Rewards points?

Don’t worry! Recyclebank is working closely with Think Green Rewards to migrate your points over once you set up your password. Be sure to watch for emails from Waste Management and Recyclebank and follow the instructions in the email. If you did not receive the emails from Waste Management and Recyclebank, call 1-888-727-2978.

How do I create a new account?

To begin the registration process, visit http://www.recyclebank.com/wm or call 1-888-727-2978.

How do I migrate over my old account/s?

Waste Management and Recyclebank will take care of migrating all your information over by address. You will just need to set up your new password to activate your account. Follow the instructions in the emails to automatically migrate your Think Green Rewards account to Recyclebank. If you did not receive the emails from Waste Management and Recyclebank, contact us at 1-888-727-2978.

How do I receive points?

When you participate in the Recyclebank program, you earn points each time your recycling is collected. Plus, Recyclebank also offers other ways to earn points, like taking pledges and quizzes to learn about living greener, referring your friends and family to the program, and a lot of other ways. And if you report your recycling activity through the Recyclebank website or the available smartphone app, you earn BONUS points each week you report in!

Can I still recycle the same items? What are those items?

The rewards program does not affect the current recycling program! For information on items that you can recycle in your recycling cart, visit cityofcarrollton.com/solidwaste.

Can I receive points for ewaste items?

Recyclebank currently does not have a reward for ewaste recycling, but stay tuned! Recyclebank is constantly adding additional opportunities.

Will I still be able to redeem my points at the same places?

Rewards are available with hundreds of local businesses and national brands! More than likely, the businesses you currently redeem your points with will be included in the Recyclebank rewards catalog, but there are no guarantees. The Recyclebank team is constantly adding and changing reward opportunities to keep the catalog fresh and up-to-date!

Will I be able to give my points to the charity of my choosing?

Recyclebank’s donation program is the Recyclebank Green Schools Program. This program is designed to promote green education and encourage innovative thinking. Schools can raise funds for their projects by getting Recyclebank Point donations, which will be converted into dollars and awarded to fund the project. To search for a school to donate your points to, go to the “About Us” tab and click on Green Schools. At this time, Recyclebank does not have any other point donation programs involving charities.

How has Recyclebank changed since we had them before?

Recyclebank has come a long way since 2008! The program always provided points for recycling, but now there are lots of additional new ways to get points, like taking pledges and quizzes to learn about living greener, and referring your friends and family to the program. And the way you shop for and redeem rewards has improved. Now you can search for rewards by reward type, category, points amount or distance from you. There’s also new information in your profile section, allowing you to see the impact of your recycling, set various preferences, and see your points and savings to date.

How long will I be able to use my points?

As long as your Recyclebank account is active at least once every twelve (12) months (meaning there's some points-earning or points-spending), your points won’t expire. You’ll continue to accrue points month-to-month and year-to-year, so you can use them for that perfect little something.
