Overview of Civil Service
The City of Carrollton is referred to as a "Civil Service" city as it consists of Police and Fire sworn personnel. The City adheres to the guidelines of Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code.
An entry-level examination is conducted at least annually to establish an eligibility list for Police Recruit and Fire Recruit positions depending upon the department's needs
The Police eligibility list consists of persons who successfully passed the entry examination, and is effective for a period of six months from the date on which the eligibility list is established or until the list has been exhausted, whichever comes first.
The Fire eligibility list consists of persons who successfully passed the entry examination, and is effective for a period of one year from the date on which the eligibility list is established or until the list has been exhausted, whichever comes first.
The Registration information for the Police or Fire Deppartment will be posted on the City of Carrollton website, under Fire, Police and/or Workforce Services pages. The registration process consists of a Registration form/packet and a completed online application.
