Texas History Alive!

Texas History Alive

Presented by Texana Living History Association and the A. W. Perry Homestead Museum, Texas History Alive! is a great opportunity for learning about Texas history in a fun environment with lots of hands-on experiences. You will see an 1870s chuck wagon where you will be able to visit with Smokey (the cook) or the fur-trapper with his pelts. Step into a pioneer-style tent where costumed volunteers will be demonstrating life skills such as spinning and weaving. You may help with chores such as the laundry (wash board and lye soap), butter churning and corn grinding, or play with the pioneer toys. There will be presentations by historical figures like Sam Houston, Molly Goodnight, DeLiens Rose or Susanna Dickenson. Docents will be available for tours of the farmhouse. Make-and-take crafts will be available for a small supply fee.

Designed for Scouts, but open to the public; all ages are invited. Volunteer opportunities are available. This is a come-and-go event; however, not all activities will be available all day. You will need the full time, noon-5pm, to participate in all of the activities. Fee is $10 per child, accompanying adults are free. Those who register by March 15 will receive an event patch. For more information or to register, contact Kathy Ogle via email at or by phone at 214-906-5792.
