Recycling Collection

Recyclables are collected from blue roll-out recycling carts* on regular trash collection days every other week according to the Recycling Calendar (see links above).

Recycle more - it's easy! Head straight for the blue cart - there is no need to presort items or place them in plastic bags (except shredded paper, which should be placed in a CLEAR plastic bag). Make sure the cart lid will close, and roll the cart to the designated pick up spot (curb or alley) on recycling day for convenient service.

*Carts are not available for apartments.  Approximately 25% of Carrollton residents live in apartments; however, the majority of the existing apartment complexes were constructed without consideration for recycling.   Each location has logistical obstacles that need to be addressed.  Although apartment managers are encouraged to provide recycling options for their tenants, we are not aware of any that currently do so.  At this point, there are no recycling drop off locations available for Carrollton apartment dwellers.

Recycling Rewards Program

You recycled it. Your earned it.

What is it?

The City of Carrollton is the first city in Texas to participate in a unique and innovative recycling program, RecycleBank beginning December 1, 2008. You and your family will now earn RecycleBank Reward Points for your recycling efforts. The more you recycle, the more RecycleBank Points you earn.

Based on the success of this program, in other areas, an average recycler with RecycleBank has the ability to earn and redeem hundreds of dollars worth of rewards and discounts at local and national business each year.

Currently RecycleBank has more than 400 local and national rewards partners including Target.com, CVS/pharmacy, and Kraft Foods. Local Carrollton partners include Super H Mart, The Little Gym, CD Addict and Firehouse Subs.

How it works?

Recycle, Record, Reward.

Identification tags will be attached to existing recycling carts during the weeks of October 27 through November 21.  During this timeframe, please place your cart curbside on your normal collection days, even if empty, and leave it out all day so Allied Waste can accomplish this task.  Each ID tag has its own individual number and will associate your cart to your address, allowing RecycleBank to track your recycling efforts so that your housheold can start earning rewards.

Your cart will be picked up by Allied Waste on your normally scheduled recycling pick up day.  The trucks will read yourI D tag, recognize that your household has recycled and transmit that information to RecycleBank.  Your account will then be credited with RecycleBank Points based on how much recycling has been picked up from your neighborhood route.  You will be able to go online to RecycleBank.com, log into your personal account and redeem your RecycleBank Points for rewards.  No computer? No problem.  Call RecycleBank’s Customer Care line toll free at 1.888.727.2978.

Remember, you must activate your account in order to receive your recycling rewards!

Benefits

Why should we recycle? For the environment, for Carrollton and for you!

Environment. Recycling helps conserve natural resources. That means we're helping to make sure the earth is still here for our grandchildren. Recycling saves energy as it allows us to make fewer cans, bottles and paper. This helps keep fuel prices low and cuts down the amount of factory smoke and fumes going into the air we breathe.

Carrollton. Neighborhoods benefit from recycling through cleaner streets and sidewalks, and a stronger sense of community. Recycling also helps generate sales tax revenue. By shopping at one of our local rewards partners, sales tax revenue will be generated for Carrollton. This means more funding for public safety, libraries and fewer potholes!

You. Recycling is one of the best things you can do. It takes so little effort - you must simply know what’s recyclable and put it in one bin. But really it's a gift to all of us and especially to our children. Recycling helps the environment in a big way. For example when you recycle a can, one less has to be made; thereby saving the earth energy and materials.
